Police and fire crews responding to the Quality Inn in Hackettstown found heavy flooding from the activated sprinkler system shortly before 2:55 a.m. on Sept. 7, Mansfield Township police said in a Wednesday release.
Authorities traced the activation to room 108, where they found that a 21-year-old woman had tampered with the sprinkler head and caused the flooding, police said.
The woman — whose name was not released — also allegedly affixed razor blades to the inside door handle, authorities said.
The woman was charged with third-degree recklessly causing widespread injury or damage and third-degree criminal mischief.
She was being held at the Warren County Jail pending a hearing.
Meanwhile, hotel guests were relocated, and the building remained shut down for ongoing repairs.
